Players to watch

For Mumbai, much begins with Hardik Pandya. As captain, his influence extends beyond the obvious all-round skill set. Since 2022, he has scored 1748 IPL runs and taken 38 wickets, and his Wankhede record includes 42 off 15 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025 and 3 for 31 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024. Against Punjab’s attack, one matchup stands out: he has scored 16 runs from 19 balls against Arshdeep Singh without being dismissed, which could be important in the middle overs if that contest reappears.

Jasprit Bumrah is the other obvious Mumbai axis. Wankhede’s pace-friendly numbers suit him, and his venue record is outstanding: 5 for 21 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 11 April 2024 and 4 for 22 against Lucknow Super Giants on 27 April 2025 are reminders of how decisively he can shape an innings.
