Kwena Maphaka

Kwena Tshegofatso Maphaka, born on April 8, 2006, in Johannesburg, is a gifted left-arm fast bowler who rose to prominence during the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in 2024. Representing South Africa, he took 21 wickets in six matches, just one short of the tournament record, and became the first player in the history of the competition to claim three five-wicket hauls in a single edition. His outstanding performances earned him the “Player of the Tournament” award, marking him as one of the brightest prospects in world cricket.

Following his breakout at youth level, Maphaka quickly transitioned into professional cricket. In 2024, he made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians at the age of 17, becoming the youngest South African and third-youngest overseas player to appear in the league. Later that year, he debuted for South Africa in all three formats—T20I in August, ODI in December where he impressed with figures of 4/72, and Test cricket in early 2025, becoming the youngest South African man to play a Test match while still completing his schooling.

In 2025, Maphaka joined the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL, further cementing his reputation as a rising star.
