Liam Dawson
Liam Dawson, a seasoned slow left-arm orthodox spinner and capable middle-order batsman, has been a cornerstone of Hampshire’s red-ball side since his debut in 2007. A right-hander with the bat, Dawson rose through England’s youth ranks and made an early impact with a first-class century at just 18. Over his extensive county career, he has played more than 210 first-class matches, amassing over 10,500 runs at an average of 34.8 and taking 365 wickets at 31.2. His tally includes 15 five-wicket hauls and over 200 catches, highlighting his reliability as a genuine all-rounder.
Internationally, Dawson made his Test, ODI, and T20I debuts in 2016, with his Test debut coming in Chennai where he impressed with an unbeaten 66 and tidy left-arm spin. However, he last featured in Test cricket in 2017, having played only three matches. In the years since, he focused on domestic and franchise cricket, playing in tournaments like the Hundred, BBL, PSL, and SA20. His consistent performances in the shorter formats earned him a T20I recall in 2025, where he grabbed headlines with figures of 4/20 against West Indies.
Dawson’s recent domestic form has been exceptional—he led the 2023 County Championship with 49 wickets and 840 runs, and in 2024, bettered that with 54 wickets and 1,280 runs. These stellar seasons earned him back-to-back PCA Player of the Year awards and a new contract with Hampshire. His outstanding all-round performances have now culminated in a Test recall after eight years, with England drafting him into the squad for the crucial 4th Test against India at Old Trafford, showcasing his enduring value and determination to contribute at the highest level.
