Matthew Breetzke

Matthew Paul Breetzke is a South African cricketer born on November 3, 1998, in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. He is a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper and has represented South Africa in all three formats of international cricket since his debut in 2023. Breetzke began his domestic career playing for Eastern Province in 2017 and quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his elegant stroke play, adaptability, and ability to anchor innings across formats. He was a key player in South Africa’s Under-19 team during the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he was the second-highest run-scorer for his side.

Breetzke's international journey includes a T20I debut against Australia in September 2023, followed by his Test debut in October 2024 against Bangladesh. His standout moment came during his One Day International (ODI) debut in February 2025 against New Zealand, where he scored a remarkable 150 runs, setting the record for the highest score on ODI debut by a South African and becoming the fourth South African to score a century on debut. Known for his versatility in switching between the top and middle order, Breetzke has already made a mark with his consistent performances in domestic leagues, including the SA20 and IPL.
