Jamie Luke Smith, born July 12, 2000, is an English cricketer who plays as a wicket-keeper-batter across all three formats for England and domestically for Surrey. In early 2023, Smith made headlines by scoring the fastest century for the England Lions, reaching 100 off just 71 balls during an unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A, breaking a record that had stood since 2009. Influenced by England coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes' aggressive 'Bazball' approach to Test cricket, Smith adopted a more dominant and positive batting style. He earned his first full England cap in September 2023 during the ODI series against Ireland and was later selected as England’s first-choice wicket-keeper for the 2024 home Test series against the West Indies.

Smith made an impressive Test debut at Lord’s in July 2024, scoring 70 runs and earning praise for his mature batting. He scored his maiden Test century in August 2024 against Sri Lanka, becoming only the third England player to score more than 70 in three of their first five Test innings. His 318 runs in those innings rank as the second highest by any wicketkeeper in Test history. Smith’s consistent performances helped cement his place in the Test side, leading to his selection for the subsequent Pakistan tour. Recognized as a 'generational talent' by commentators, he was named the Professional Cricketers' Association Men’s Young Player of the Year and awarded a central England contract through 2026, underscoring his rising stature in international cricket.
