Matthew Humphreys

Matthew James Humphreys, born on 28 September 2002 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is an Irish cricketer who plays as a right-handed batsman and slow left-arm orthodox bowler for the Northern Knights. A product of Lisburn Cricket Club, he captained youth sides and played a key role in Ireland’s qualification for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he took 11 wickets in six matches.

Humphreys made his List A and T20 domestic debuts in 2022 and recorded career-best figures of 5/13 in a T20 match in 2023, contributing to Northern Knights’ Irish domestic double that year. Despite not having first-class experience initially, he was selected for Ireland’s Test, ODI, and T20I squads for tours in 2023. He made his ODI debut in March 2023 against Bangladesh, followed by his T20I debut later that month, becoming the first Irish bowler to take a wicket with his first T20I delivery. Humphreys made his Test debut in April 2023 against Sri Lanka. He was also part of the 2023 Emerging Ireland tour of the West Indies, gaining further international experience.
