Matthew Paul Kuhnemann, born on September 20, 1996, in Brisbane, is an Australian slow left-arm orthodox bowler who has rapidly emerged as a key figure in Australia’s bowling attack, especially in Test cricket. He began his domestic career with Queensland, making his List A debut in 2017 and first-class debut in 2021. Kuhnemann made his international debut for Australia in June 2022 and earned a Test call-up during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India, where he impressed with a maiden five-wicket haul (5/16) in the third Test at Indore, playing a crucial role in Australia’s victory.

In 2025, Kuhnemann was selected for Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka, overcoming a thumb injury to deliver strong performances, including a second five-wicket haul and finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the series with 16 wickets at an average of 17.18. Despite being reported for a suspected illegal bowling action after the second Test, he was cleared by the ICC following testing, allowing him to continue his international career. Known for his ability to extract turn and bounce, Kuhnemann has quickly established himself as a promising spinner adaptable to subcontinental conditions and a valuable asset for Australia’s future.
