Richie Berrington

Richard Douglas Berrington, born on April 3, 1987, in Pretoria, South Africa, is a Scottish cricketer who has made significant contributions to the national team since his youth career. Berrington emigrated to Scotland as a child and represented the country at every youth level from under-13s up to under-19s, showcasing his talent from a young age.

Berrington made his One Day International debut for Scotland against Ireland in July 2008 and has since become a regular member of the Scottish team, particularly excelling in Twenty20s and first-class cricket. He has scored centuries in several key matches for Scotland, including a memorable innings of 106 against India A in June 2010 and a century off just 56 balls in a Twenty20 International against Bangladesh in July 2012, which was the first ever by an associate nation player.

Berrington's performances have been crucial for Scotland in major tournaments, such as the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where he scored a half-century against New Zealand. He has also achieved significant milestones, including passing 1,000 ODI runs in 2016 alongside teammates Preston Mommsen and Kyle Coetzer.

In June 2022, Berrington was named as the captain of the Scottish national team, taking over from Kyle Coetzer. He has also captained Scotland in several matches during the 2017–18 United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series.

Berrington's dedication and skill have been recognized through his nomination for the ICC Men's Associate Cricketer of the Decade award in November 2020. In September 2021, he was named the vice-captain of Scotland's provisional squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

In December 2022, Berrington became the first player to make 100 ODI appearances for Scotland, cementing his status as a legend of Scottish cricket. On July 28, 2023, he joined the elite group of T20I players to have scored over 2,000 runs in their T20I career, further solidifying his place as one of the greatest cricketers to represent Scotland.
