Shadley van Schalkwyk

Shadley van Schalkwyk is a South African-American cricketer who was born in Cape Town. He is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, currently playing for the Seattle Thunderbolts in Minor League Cricket and the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.

Van Schalkwyk's cricketing journey began with his first appearances for Wynberg Boys' High School in a tour of Pakistan at the start of the 2006–07 season, where he played against various Pakistani schools.

Domestically in South Africa, van Schalkwyk made his List A debut in February 2008, scoring 17 runs from the lower order. He went on to represent South Africa Academy at the Academy Cup competition of 2007–08 and played for Western Province, The Knights, and Free State in various domestic tournaments.

In 2017, van Schalkwyk was named in Nelson Mandela Bay Stars' squad for the first season of the T20 Global League, although the tournament was eventually postponed and then cancelled. He continued to represent Free State in domestic competitions, including the 2018 Africa T20 Cup and the 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup.

In June 2021, van Schalkwyk was named in the Minor League Cricket team for the Seattle Thunderbolts, marking a new chapter in his cricketing career. His move to the United States was further solidified in March 2023 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Knight Riders to play in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket.

Most recently, in March 2024, van Schalkwyk was named in the United States' squad for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Canada. He made his T20I debut for the USA on April 7, 2024, against Canada.

Van Schalkwyk's transition from playing domestic cricket in South Africa to representing the United States national team and participating in American cricket leagues showcases his adaptability and desire to continue his cricketing journey on a global scale. His experience and skills will undoubtedly be valuable assets to the USA cricket team as they strive to make their mark on the international stage.
