Shehan Jayasuriya

Shehan Jayasuriya is an experienced left-handed batting all-rounder who has made a significant transition from Sri Lankan international cricket to the United States national setup. Born on September 12, 1991, in Colombo, he was a prolific performer in the Sri Lankan domestic circuit, particularly for the Chilaw Marians, and represented Sri Lanka in 12 ODIs and 18 T20Is between 2015 and 2020. Known for his ability to anchor an innings and provide valuable right-arm off-break bowling, his international career for Sri Lanka was highlighted by a resilient 96 against Pakistan in 2019. In January 2021, he announced his retirement from Sri Lankan cricket to relocate to the United States.

As of late January 2026, Jayasuriya has been named in the United States' 15-man squad for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and his birth nation, Sri Lanka. This selection marks a major milestone as he seeks to make his international debut for the USA. His path to the national team was paved by dominant performances in American domestic leagues, including a standout 2025 Minor League Cricket (MiLC) season where he scored 330 runs with a century for the Silicon Valley Strikers. He has also been a steady presence in Major League Cricket (MLC) for the Seattle Orcas. Heading into the World Cup, Jayasuriya’s deep knowledge of subcontinental conditions is expected to be a strategic asset for the USA as they face a challenging Group A opener against India in Mumbai.
