Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva is a world-class leg-spinning all-rounder who has redefined Sri Lanka's white-ball bowling attack. Born on July 29, 1997, in Galle, he began his journey as a seam bowler at Richmond College before transitioning to leg-spin, a move that changed the trajectory of his career. Hasaranga made a historic international debut in 2017 against Zimbabwe, becoming the youngest player and the first leg-spinner to take an ODI hat-trick on debut. Known for his deceptive googly and rapid arm speed, he quickly ascended the ICC rankings, reaching the number one spot for T20I bowlers and establishing himself as one of the most feared spinners in global franchise cricket, including the IPL.

Beyond his mastery with the ball, Hasaranga is a fierce competitor and a vital lower-order batsman capable of match-winning cameos. His career is highlighted by stellar performances in major tournaments; he was the leading wicket-taker in the 2021 T20 World Cup and the Player of the Tournament in Sri Lanka's 2022 Asia Cup triumph. Despite battling occasional injuries, he has remained a central figure in the national setup, even serving as the T20I captain before stepping down in mid-2024 to focus on his individual performance.
