Jomel Warrican

Jomel Andrel Warrican, born on May 20, 1992, in Richmond Hill, Saint Vincent, is a left-arm orthodox spinner known for his skillful bowling and useful lower-order batting. He began his cricket journey in Saint Vincent before moving to Barbados, where he attended Combermere School and joined the Empire Cricket Club. Warrican was recognized early for his talent, receiving the Lord Gavron Award in 2009 and representing the West Indies in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2010. He made his first-class debut for Barbados in 2012 and quickly became a key player, particularly shining in the 2014-15 Regional Four Day Competition where he took 49 wickets. Warrican made his Test debut for West Indies against Sri Lanka in October 2015 and has since been a crucial part of their Test bowling attack, particularly effective in subcontinent conditions.

Throughout his international career, Warrican has been valued for his crafty left-arm spin, relying on variations and subtle changes of pace to outfox batsmen. As of 2025, he has played 21 Test matches, taking 73 wickets at an average of 28.26, with best bowling figures of 7/32. He has also contributed to important victories, notably being named player of the match and series during the West Indies' test series against Pakistan in January 2025 after taking 19 wickets in two matches. While primarily a red-ball specialist, Warrican provides handy runs lower down the order and remains a critical member of the West Indies bowling line-up, admired for his effectiveness in long-format cricket.
