Uma Chetry, born on July 27, 2002, is an emerging Indian cricketer from Assam known for her role as a wicket-keeper and right-handed batter. She is notable for being the first female cricketer from Assam and Northeast India to be selected for the Indian national squad. Uma made her international debut in a T20I match against South Africa on July 7, 2024. She hails from Kandulimari village in Bokakhat, Assam, where her early cricketing journey began playing alongside boys and encouraged by her mother to take professional training.

Uma has represented India A in the 2023 ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup and was named in India's squad for the T20 International series against Bangladesh in 2023. She was also part of India’s gold-medal-winning squad at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. In 2024, she was named in the ODI, T20I, and Test squads for the series against South Africa and was included in the India squad for the home ODI series against New Zealand. Uma also plays domestically for Assam and was signed by the UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) as a replacement player in 2024. Known for her resilience and talent, Uma Chetry is an inspiring figure for young cricketers from Northeast India, steadily establishing herself at the highest level of women’s cricket in India.
