Akash Deep

Akash Deep, the rising star from Bengal, has carved his path in cricket despite facing numerous challenges along the way. Born on 15 December 1996, he has emerged as a promising cricketer for both Bengal in domestic cricket and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

Deep's journey reflects his resilience and determination to pursue his passion for cricket against all odds. Hailing from Bihar's Sasaram, he faced opposition from his family and neighbors for choosing cricket over academics. Despite the lack of proper infrastructure in Bihar cricket, Deep persevered, supported by a close friend who helped him join a cricket club in Durgapur.

His early struggles continued as he faced setbacks with the unexpected demise of his father and elder brother, leaving him as the sole breadwinner for his family. However, Deep's dedication remained unwavering as he continued to excel in cricket, earning a livelihood by playing tennis-ball matches.

Deep's talent caught the attention of Bengal's cricketing circles, and he joined a United Club in the CAB first division league. Initially a batsman, he transitioned to fast bowling at the behest of his coaches, leading to his selection in the Bengal U-23 cricket team. Despite a career-threatening back injury, Deep's determination and the support of his coaches helped him overcome the setback.

In his domestic career, Deep made significant strides, making his debut in various formats for Bengal. His impressive performances earned him a spot in the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad for the IPL. He showcased his bowling prowess with notable performances, including two four-wicket hauls for India A against England Lions.

Deep's international journey began with his inclusion in India's squad for the 2022 Asian Games, replacing the injured Shivam Mavi. Despite being named in the ODI squad for the series against South Africa, he didn't get a chance to play.

In February 2024, Deep received his maiden test callup for the home test series against England, a testament to his consistent performances in domestic cricket. His journey reflects his resilience, determination, and passion for the game, making him a promising prospect for Indian cricket.
