Wanindu Hasaranga

Pinnaduwage Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva, widely known as Wanindu Hasaranga, is a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cricket, renowned for his prowess as a bowling all-rounder. Born on 29 July 1997, Hasaranga made his mark early, representing Richmond College, Galle, and the Sri Lankan under-19 cricket team in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Initially, Hasaranga began his cricket journey as a seam bowler but transitioned to leg-spin under the guidance of coach Lanka de Silva, showcasing immense potential. He debuted for Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club in the 2015–16 Premier League Tournament and impressed with his performances, earning recognition as the most promising player in domestic cricket for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.

Hasaranga's talents were further highlighted in franchise cricket, making notable contributions to teams such as the Sylhet Sixers, Jaffna Stallions, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in leagues like the Bangladesh Premier League and the Indian Premier League (IPL). His standout performance of 5 for 18 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL garnered significant attention.

His versatility transcends borders, as evidenced by his participation in leagues like The Hundred in England and Major League Cricket in the United States, where he showcased his skills for teams like the Manchester Originals and Washington Freedom, respectively.

As he continues to excel on the global stage, Hasaranga's journey reached new heights when he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2024 IPL season, reflecting his growing stature as a top-tier talent in the world of cricket.
