Born on 11 November 1997 in Patiala, Markande honed his cricketing skills during his schooling years at Yadavindra Public School, where he was an integral part of the cricket team.
Markande made his mark in domestic cricket, debuting for Punjab in the 2017–18 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and showcasing his potential with an impressive performance, including a notable debut where he claimed three wickets.
His standout performances in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2018 auction. Markande grabbed attention in his IPL debut by dismissing none other than the legendary MS Dhoni, signaling his arrival on the big stage.
Continuing to excel in domestic cricket, Markande made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for his team with 29 dismissals in six matches.
