Onkar Tarmale is a 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler from the small village of Shere in Shahapur (Maharashtra), who was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for ₹30 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction. His selection is a classic 'diamond in the rough' story; despite a hamstring injury that limited him to just two overs during the SRH trials, his raw pace—consistently hitting 140 km/h and peaking at 145 km/h—was enough to convince bowling coach Varun Aaron of his potential.

Tarmale’s journey to the IPL is one of immense grit and family sacrifice. The son of a small-time farmer, his father, Tukaram, mortgaged family gold and took loans from local self-help groups (Mahila Bachat Gat) to fund Onkar’s training and daily travel to Mumbai. After years of toiling in the lower divisions of Mumbai's club cricket, his breakthrough came in the 2025 T20 Mumbai League. Representing the Thane Eagle Strikers, he caught the eye of mentor and former India pacer Dhawal Kulkarni, who advocated for his talent when Onkar was on the verge of quitting to seek a police job. Now, as a member of the Sunrisers, Tarmale is being groomed as a high-velocity domestic option capable of operating in both the powerplay and the death overs.
