Washington Sundar, born on October 5, 1999, is an Indian international cricketer renowned for his contributions to the Indian cricket team and his stellar performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) representing Sunrisers Hyderabad. Additionally, he is a key player for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket.

Sundar, a left-handed batsman and right-arm off-spinner, made his mark in the cricketing world at a young age. Born into a Tamil Hindu family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, he inherited his passion for the sport from his father, M. Sundar, who named him in honor of P.D. Washington, a benefactor of his father's cricketing endeavors. Sundar's sister, Shailaja Sundar, also excels as a professional cricketer.

Beginning his cricketing journey at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Sundar showcased his talent from a tender age, starting his cricketing endeavors at the age of four or five.

In domestic cricket, Sundar made waves with Tamil Nadu, debuting in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy. Known for his versatility, he transitioned from being a batsman to a proficient off-spinner, following in the footsteps of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Sundar's prowess was not confined to domestic cricket; he made his presence felt in the IPL arena as well. Rising Pune Supergiant recognized his talent, selecting him as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. He impressed in the IPL 2017 Qualifier 1, earning the Man of the Match award for his exceptional performance.

His IPL journey continued with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018, where he further showcased his skills as an all-rounder.

In the 2022 IPL Auction, Sundar was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a significant sum of ₹8.75 crores, underlining his value as a player in the league.

Sundar's talent transcended boundaries as he ventured into English county cricket, representing Lancashire County Cricket Club in the Royal London One-Day Cup and the County Championship. His debut match for Lancashire saw him claim a remarkable five-wicket haul against Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, further cementing his reputation as a versatile and impactful cricketer.

With his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, Sundar continues to be a pivotal figure in Indian cricket and a prized asset in the IPL, captivating audiences with his performances on the field.
