Barry McCarthy
Barry McCarthy is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed lower-order batter who has been a mainstay in Ireland’s pace attack since making his international debut in 2016. Born on September 13, 1992, in Dublin, McCarthy began his professional career with Durham in county cricket before shifting full-time focus to the Irish national team. In ODIs, he has taken over 75 wickets with multiple four-wicket hauls and a best of 5/46, while in T20Is, he has picked up more than 50 wickets, becoming a dependable option with the ball in both powerplay and death overs. His Test appearances, though limited, have been impressive with 14 wickets at an average under 20.
McCarthy has also proved useful with the bat, delivering key lower-order contributions. In 2023, he scored a T20I half-century against India while batting at number 8—the first to do so in that position against them. His 4/32 against the West Indies in May 2025 was pivotal in a massive win for Ireland, underlining his match-winning potential. With his experience, accuracy, and all-round utility, McCarthy continues to play a crucial role in Ireland’s white-ball and red-ball plans.
