Shamar Joseph
Shamar Joseph, born 31 August 1999 in Guyana, is a right-arm fast bowler who plays for Guyana domestically and the West Indies internationally. He made a remarkable rise from working as a security guard to international cricket, debuting in Test cricket in January 2024 against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Joseph impressed immediately by taking a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket and scoring 36 runs batting at number 11, setting a West Indies record for the highest score by a number 11 on Test debut.
He took a five-wicket haul in his debut Test innings and followed it with an eight-wicket match haul in his second Test, helping West Indies secure their first Test win in Australia in 27 years. Despite a toe injury sustained while batting, Joseph’s fierce bowling spearheaded the historic victory, earning him Player of the Series honors—the first West Indies player to win this award in his debut Test series.
Joseph’s performances earned him a central contract with Cricket West Indies and the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for January 2024, the first West Indian to receive this honor. He was named in the West Indies squad for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as an uncapped player and is also contracted to play for Lucknow Super Giants in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Known for his pace, accuracy, and resilience, Joseph quickly established himself as a key fast bowler and rising star in international cricket.
