Gudakesh Motie

Gudakesh Motie, born on March 29, 1995, in Georgetown, Guyana, is a key left-arm orthodox spinner for the West Indies cricket team known for his ability to extract turn and maintain disciplined lines. Motie first came into prominence as a part of the West Indies Under-19 squad in the 2014 U-19 World Cup and made his first-class debut for Guyana in 2015. Remarkably, in only his second first-class match, he delivered a match-winning performance with 11 wickets against the Windward Islands, earning the Player of the Match award. By 2021, Motie had established himself as a lethal spinner in regional cricket, finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the Super50 limited-overs tournament and earning the Sir Curtly Ambrose award for his 17 wickets. He made his international debut for the West Indies in T20Is in December 2021, followed by his ODI debut in July 2022 and Test debut in June 2022, becoming a vital part of the West Indian bowling attack across all formats.​

Motie's bowling is characterized by his ability to generate sharp turn and maintain a low economy rate, making him an effective spinner in both longer and shorter formats. By mid-2025, he had taken 35 Test wickets at an average of 27.02, 34 ODI wickets, and 34 T20I wickets, establishing himself as a reliable bowler in pressure situations. Beyond his international career, Motie also plays for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League and has participated in other T20 franchise leagues, including the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
