Asitha Fernando

Asitha Madusanka Fernando, born on July 31, 1997, in Katuneriya, Sri Lanka, is a prominent Sri Lankan fast bowler known for his right-arm medium-fast pace and his ability to generate reverse swing. He burst onto the international scene as a leading bowler in the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup where he was Sri Lanka's highest wicket-taker. Asitha made his international debut in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in July 2017, and his Test debut came in January 2021 against South Africa. Since then, he has cemented his place as a key bowler in all formats of Sri Lankan cricket.

Fernando’s career highlights include his first ten-wicket haul in a Test match against Bangladesh and multiple five-wicket hauls, with a notable performance at Lord's where he became the second Sri Lankan bowler to get his name on the Honours Board. In domestic cricket, he plays for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club and has been part of Lanka Premier League franchises such as the Galle Gladiators.
