Chamari Athapaththu

Atapattumudiyanselage Chamari Jayangani Kumari Athapaththu, commonly known as Chamari Athapaththu, born on February 9, 1990, is a celebrated Sri Lankan cricketer and captain of the Sri Lanka women's national cricket team. She is a left-handed batter and right-arm medium pace bowler, renowned for her aggressive batting style and leadership on the field. Chamari made her international debut in the 2009 ICC Women's T20 World Cup at 19 years old and has since become Sri Lanka's premier batter.

Athapaththu holds the record for being the only Sri Lankan woman to score multiple ODI centuries; she has scored nine ODI hundreds, including the highest individual score for Sri Lanka in women's ODIs—178 not out. She was the first Sri Lankan woman to hit a century in a Women's Cricket World Cup. Under her captaincy, Sri Lanka women achieved their first bilateral ODI series win against New Zealand in 2023. Chamari also led Sri Lanka to their maiden Women's Asia Cup title in 2024 with extraordinary batting performances, earning Player of the Series honors.

Her international career boasts many accolades, including multiple Player of the Match awards and a stint as the No. 1 ranked ODI batter in women's cricket. She was named captain for the 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup and remains a key player in franchise leagues like the Women's Premier League. Chamari's leadership, experience, and explosive batting have placed her among the top all-rounders in women’s cricket globally.
