Namibia T20I Tri-Series, 2026

The Namibia T20I Tri-Series 2026 brings together three neighbouring African nations as hosts Namibia welcome South Africa and Zimbabwe to Windhoek from August 28 to September 6. All seven matches will be played at the Namibia Cricket Ground, with each team facing the other twice before the top two meet in the final on September 6. The tournament opens with Namibia against South Africa on August 28, followed by South Africa versus Zimbabwe a day later, and every match is scheduled for a 2 PM local start. Beyond the immediate competition, the series carries wider significance for African cricket: South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup, while Cricket Namibia has described this tri-series as a foundation for the planned Africa Cup from 2027.

South Africa will arrive with a youthful squad rather than their full-strength international side, with Bjorn Fortuin appointed captain and several emerging players given an opportunity to push their claims. Dewald Brevis, Lhuan-dré Pretorius, Kwena Maphaka, Tony de Zorzi and Nqaba Peter provide international experience and considerable potential, while Duan Jansen and Eathan Bosch are among those given fresh opportunities. That makes the Proteas favourites on depth but also leaves room for the hosts to challenge them. Namibia will have particularly good memories of this matchup after producing a historic four-wicket victory over South Africa at the same ground in October 2025, when Ruben Trumpelmann helped restrict the visitors before Zane Green guided the chase home.

Zimbabwe add another strong dimension to a tournament that could be much closer than the teams’ traditional reputations might suggest. Zimbabwe and Namibia both qualified for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup through the African qualifier, with Zimbabwe subsequently beating Namibia by seven wickets in the final, highlighting how competitive the rivalry between the two sides has become. Players such as Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennett, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani give Zimbabwe proven match-winning quality whenever selected, while Namibia can lean on an experienced core built around Gerhard Erasmus, JJ Smit and their increasingly confident group of T20 players. With South Africa testing its next generation, Namibia enjoying home advantage and Zimbabwe capable of beating either opponent, the double round-robin format should provide a competitive series where qualification for the final could remain open deep into the tournament.
