Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy is an Indian right-arm leg-spinner celebrated for his deceptive variations, sharp googlies and ability to keep batters guessing. His unconventional journey into professional cricket saw him move from architecture to domestic cricket before making his mark in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and the IPL. Representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Varun developed into one of the competition’s most effective mystery spinners, earning a return to India’s international setup in 2024. He has since established himself as a key T20I bowler, using changes in pace, trajectory and turn to unsettle even well-set batters. His performances at the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he claimed 14 wickets, further underlined his value on the biggest stage.

Varun’s ability to control the middle overs and break partnerships makes him a valuable component of India’s white-ball attack. However, he was ruled out of India’s Japan T20I and Asian Games assignments in September 2026 because of a side strain, with Vipraj Nigam named as his replacement. Once fit, Varun’s combination of wicket-taking threat and control can make him a difficult matchup for batters unfamiliar with his variations. From a fantasy-cricket perspective, he offers considerable upside when conditions assist spin, as a couple of breakthroughs can quickly turn a contest and deliver a strong points return.
