Matthew Fisher

Matthew Fisher is a New Zealand fast bowler known for his pace, bounce and ability to trouble batters with steep lift from a good length. Born on 10 November 1999 in Auckland, Fisher is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who came through New Zealand’s age-group system and represented the country at Under-19 level. Standing around 6ft 2in, he developed through Northern Districts and established himself as one of the quickest bowlers in New Zealand’s domestic setup.

Fisher’s progress was interrupted by injury problems, including back stress fractures and shin issues, but strong performances for Northern Districts eventually pushed him into the national reckoning. He earned his first Test call-up in 2025 and made his debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in August that year, taking two wickets for 38 runs in the match. He later made his T20I debut against Bangladesh in April 2026 before receiving his maiden ODI call-up for New Zealand’s tour of the West Indies.

Primarily valued for his raw pace and ability to generate bounce, Fisher gives New Zealand another attacking option in an already deep fast-bowling group. His domestic record, combined with appearances for New Zealand A and his gradual introduction across all three international formats, has strengthened his case for a larger role in the national side. With his pace and improving control, Fisher is regarded as one of the more exciting fast-bowling prospects in New Zealand cricket.
