Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson is a left-arm fast bowler who adds genuine pace and a different angle to Australia’s bowling attack for the ODI series against Zimbabwe. The South Australian made his ODI debut against India in 2023 and has since represented Australia in both ODIs and T20Is. After a period disrupted by injury, Johnson returned to Australia’s T20I setup earlier this year and has now been selected for the three-match ODI tour of Zimbabwe. His inclusion, alongside fellow quick Billy Stanlake, gives Australia additional pace-bowling depth as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Johnson’s left-arm pace can be particularly useful with the new ball, where he can attack the stumps and create movement while using his natural angle to challenge right-handed batters. He also possesses the speed to trouble batters when conditions are less helpful, making him a potential wicket-taking option throughout the innings. The Zimbabwe series provides Johnson with an important opportunity to regain a regular place in Australia’s ODI plans after limited appearances in the format. For fantasy cricket, his attacking style and ability to strike with the ball make him an interesting bowling pick, particularly if he gets an opportunity to bowl during the powerplay.
