Steven Smith

Steven Smith is one of the most accomplished batters of his generation and has continually adapted his highly individual technique to the demands of T20 cricket. While best known for his achievements in Test cricket, Smith's ability to manipulate gaps, use his feet against spin and access unconventional scoring areas has made him a valuable top-order option in the shortest format. He can control an innings through placement and strike rotation before accelerating once he has assessed the conditions.

Smith has extensive T20 experience across international cricket and major franchise competitions, including the IPL, Big Bash League and Major League Cricket. His T20 career has featured periods as both an anchor and a more aggressive powerplay batter, with his recent franchise performances showing that he remains capable of scoring at a very high tempo. In the 2026 Major League Cricket playoffs, he produced a 48-ball 110 for Washington Freedom, underlining the boundary-hitting range he can bring when given time at the crease.

Beyond his run-scoring, Smith offers enormous tactical experience and a deep understanding of match situations. He is particularly effective when conditions require a batter to solve problems rather than simply swing from the outset, and his ability to read bowlers can make him difficult to contain once set. In T20 cricket, that combination of game awareness, adaptability and increasingly aggressive strokeplay allows him to influence matches in several different ways.
