Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is an Indian top-order batter known for his elegant stroke play, calm temperament and ability to build innings while maintaining a strong scoring rate. Born on 31 January 1997 in Pune, Maharashtra, he is a right-handed opener who rose through the domestic circuit with consistent performances for Maharashtra. Gaikwad first gained major attention for his run-scoring ability in Indian domestic cricket, where his solid technique and composure against both pace and spin marked him out as one of the country’s most promising batters.

He became a widely recognized name through the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings, where he developed into one of the team’s most reliable batters at the top of the order. His standout IPL performances included a prolific 2021 season, in which he finished as the leading run-scorer and played a major role in Chennai’s title-winning campaign. Over time, his consistency in the IPL and domestic cricket earned him opportunities for India in T20Is and ODIs, and he also captained the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2023.

Gaikwad’s batting is built on timing, placement and a strong understanding of innings construction rather than pure aggression alone. He is especially effective through the off side, but he also has the range to accelerate and clear the boundary when needed. In addition to his batting, his leadership responsibilities in domestic cricket and franchise cricket have highlighted his maturity and cricketing awareness. With his blend of consistency, elegance and adaptability, Gaikwad remains an important batting talent in Indian cricket.
